To start this off, I will tell you the basics. Flockmod is owned by FDT, who also owns the room Fallback. Flockmod is currently updated by: FDT, Auto, Pen, and Moon.

Is it free to use Flockmod?
Yes. All that is asked for from the users is to invite a friend or two, follow the rules, draw, and have fun!

                                                             How do I register a room/become a registered user?
Well, in order to register a room, you must have a registered account! In order to do this, you can pull up a new tab and go to the Drawdevil ( http://drawdevil.com/fallback ) or the downloadable Flockmod Air App (by Auto) which is located at the py-bot website ( http://py-bot.com/apps/flockmod.air ), which is the second link down. (You must have Adobe-Air installed. ( http://get.adobe.com/air/ ) . There is now a pen pressured version of flockmod which you can download (http://www.py-bot.com/apps/flockmod.exe) which is the same as the air app except with pen pressure functionalities.

Why do I need to be registered and do I have to be registered to draw?

You do not have to be registered to get around on drawdevil, but it will certainly help you! In being registered you will be able to register and own your very own room (and how this works will be explained later.), mod other rooms other than your very own, and be able to use the new inbox feature to send messages quickly to another registered user! There are many other features for being registered, and as we go along, you will see them.
Back to learning how to register! Once you are on the main page of drawdevil, where it may or may not show a list of rooms, you can enter a username of your choice (As long as it is not already registered by another user.) along with a password. Click “Register User”. Retype your password, put in your e-mail (This is optional ), and then type in your Q&A! After this, just select “Confirm”.
If your username was registered successfully a popup will come up telling you that you have registered successfully! You are now ready to register a room!
But let’s say you got a popup saying that that the username is already registered, if this is so, then you will simply need to pick a new username and register that one!
You can register any room you want, but choose carefully, because there is a limit! (Limit is -about- fifteen registered rooms. There is no limit for moderating rooms other than your own. Please note that many rooms may already be registered by other users. If it is, you will be made aware of this by a small pop-up. (Not like an ad, no worries!)
In advance, in case you come across the chat message saying that your username or password is incorrect, or “ALERT :: Login failed. Wrong username of password.”, you may have spelled your username or password. Simply go back to the front page and try retyping your username and password. Make sure Caps Lock is not on while typing your password!
To register a room, simply right click on the dark blue space inside the “User List” and select “Register Room” on the menu that appears. It will be located right under “Sync Boards” and “PM Whisper” A nifty “Room Configuration” will pop up, listing all of the settings you will be able to have for your room. The owner of the room can always access this panel in order to change the settings.

    Room Configuration:
Room

                                                       Current Moderators
This will tell you what users have been modded in your room. Let’s say you wish to add a moderator and they are not in the room but you know what username they are registered under. If this is so, then you will simply put in the username they are registered under, select their position, and select the blue box which will say “Add Moderator”. There are two positions for mods in rooms: Moderator and Lead Moderator. (How both work will be discussed later on into this how-to.) Perhaps you do not approve of how a moderator an wish to remove them from your moderation team? Select their username and go down right bellow the “Current Moderators” and locate the box which says “Remove Selected”.
                                                    Description
This is where you will describe your room. This means you can add in some links to the rules (If you have any- and it is fine if you do not.), tell the topic of the room, or whatever comes to your mind!
Check box to make the room Public
This just means that anyone can access the room, rather than having to type in the room to get to it. This also means it is no longer private, but you can change the settings.
When a user joins the room:
Do not mute: If a user enters the room with this option selected, it will allow them to come in and draw immediately- without having to ask to be unmuted or to draw.
Mute if not registered: Users who are registered and come into the room will be able to draw immediately; unregistered users will be muted.
Mute if not moderator: Any user who enters the room will be muted unless they are a moderator for that room.

                                                Available Room Tools:

                                                                  Layers

Here I will explain the features for Layers and then the layers themselves.
Layer 1 (Top layer)
Example: This could be used for a lineart. Anything you draw will appear over the other layers.
Layer 2 (Middle layer)
Example: This could be used for a draft/sketch. (This could also be used for a lineart.) Anything drawn on this layer will appear over layer 3. However layer 1 appears on top of this.
Layer 3 (Bottom Layer)
Example: This could be used to colour a lineart. Everything draw on this layer is shown behind anything drawn on the other layers (like a background). It is also the default layer.
Select a layer you want to upload onto
                                                                   ~Saving Layers
Now let’s say you want to save one of your layers, because hey, why not? Today it just looks astonishing!
From here, you can right click on any of the three layers shown above, being this will not change the outcome. Once you right click, you will get a selection pop-up.
Save Layer
Being my example is in Layer 3, I would choose “Save Layer 3”. If you click on it, this will bring you to your Documents where you will get to choose a location to save the picture.
Save Image in
                                                              ~Clearing Layers
(NOTE: You must be ranked a Moderator or above to use this addition!)
Let’s say a user misbehaved and scribbled over the canvas and you don’t need to undo but don’t want to erase the marks by hand? Or let’s say you have a picture that you don’t like as much as you did and want to clear it away? Well, fret not, because now there is a simple way to clear away those pesky problems!
UploadingComplete
Locate Layers and then right click anywhere on the three layers shown, being this will not change the outcome. Once you have right clicked, you will get a selection pop-up, much like last time.
Clear Layer
Being for my example I am using Layer 3, then I would select it, and it will clear the layer away of whatever is on it!

                                                                                    Blend Mode

(All pictures showing an example of the mode will be located under the description. I tried to use the same colour: a light red or darkened pink.)
Normal:
This is the normal mode which will just use the set design that “Brush” uses.
Normal

Add: Similar to add, to put it simple this blend mode “brightens” the colour, but less saturated than screen. Has toned saturation and brighter highlights.

Add
Darken:
If the selected colour is darker (The example colour I used was a red, and it is not darker than black.) then the ones on the layers below (It’s black, so no.), they are kept in the image. If the colour is lighter than the layer bellow (This is true for the example picture.) , then they are replaced with the tones on the layers below (It acts as a layer bellow the black), so basically the darker tones, or black, are kept.
Darken
Difference:
It does have an inversion where black never changes, white inverts absolutely, and all of the other colours will change by the c-b-c levels.
Difference
Hardlight:
Is similar to Add by the use of lighter colours, but it uses a half-strength amount of this, and it’s logic is similar to the Overlay mode, except that it favors to base its calculations on the light colours.
Hardlight
Invert:
It reverses the colours of anything you apply it to.
Invert
Lighten:
If the selected colour is lighter (I used a dulled and darkened red) then the ones on the layers below (In the example, I used black.), they are kept in the image (the opposite of the Darken blend mode).
edd ed and pyr0
Multiply:
This mode is a good choice when you are trying to darken. This is great for creating shadows for or on objects and removing light colours while keeping the dark colours. In other words, it simply “darkens” the colour.
Multiply
Overlay:
Uses a combination of Screen for the lighter colour effect, and Multiply for the darker colour effect. Though, unlike the other Contrast tools, Overlay bases its calculations on the dark colours and not the light.
Overlay
Screen:
Similar to the Lighten mode, but it is brighter and it removes more of the dark colours, and it’s results are quite smooth. It works like Multiply in the sense that it multiplies the light colours (instead of the dark colours)
Screen
Subtract:
Similar to the Difference mode, but it doesn’t convert the whites absolutely. Blacks don’t change to any other colour, and whites will turn to black. It is basically an invert.
Subtract

                                                                 Classic:

Classic follows the same look from Version 10. (Although it has airbrush and binary pencil this time around.)
This tool option does not have layers nor blend mode and is a simpler version for those who like it that way!
Classic

What are the tools on the side bar?

Brush:
The Brush tool is the default tool. Smoother than Airbrush.
1
Airbrush:
The Airbrush tool is similar to the brush tool, except its lines will overlap instead of a continuous lines (such as the Brush).
2
Binary Pencil:
The Pencil tool is quite similar to the Brush tool, but it does not use anti-aliasing. This tool is often helpful when doing pixels or needing to get sharp lines.
3
Eraser:
The Eraser tool will act as the brush tool, yet be transparent- so you can erase. (If you are using layers, and it was not transparent, then there would be white everywhere instead of transparency.)
4
Hard Eraser:
The Hard Eraser, which is only available in Layers, will allow you to erase from not only the layer you are on but on all.
Lookwhattheerasethingydoes
Line Tool:
The Line tool allows you to draw a single line. In order to use this, select the area you want the line to start and drag the line over the are you wish for the line to end.
5
Text Tool:
The Text tool is used to type text at wherever your cursor is located at. For overly long conversations, use chat instead of text.
6
Eyedropper:
step1
                                                                                                            Save:
Click the save icon (floppy disc) in order to save the whole board. If you have “Advanced Save” , which is located in Configuration, enabled, you will be able to select what area you would like to save. Pictures that are saved will go to your documents and files. After pressing save  and selecting the area you want, your documents should pop up and allow you to choose a location for the image and a name.
Saving an image
(Press the arrow right under dropper for more tools.)
Fill:
The Fill tool fills (obviously) in an area that is a solid colour (Such as white) with another color of your choice. (Such as pink.)
7
Auto-circle Tool:
The Autocircle tool is usually used for blending colours. This tool will fill the circle with different values accordingly of  the surrounding colours.
8
Dot tool:
The Dot tool can be used to texture or draw with. This tool makes small dots or noise.
9
Blur:
The blur tool will soften and unfocus whatever it is used on. Blur moves inward, not outward- meaning it takes the surrounding colours and pulls them in.
10
Square Tool:
The Square tool will make a box or square. In order to use the square tool you will need to find what direction you need to go in to make your box. By dragging your cursor to the upper left and right or the bottom left and right, you can make the boxes go where you please.
11
Circle Tool:
The Circle tool will make a circle. The shape of the circle will depend on how you drag your mouse when making it.
12
Bell Pepper Brush:
The brush will act on the file that you load from the Bell Pepper Load. For example, let us say you have already downloaded the GIMP tool files (http://py-bot.com/gimpbrushes.zip) and you want to use Pixel.gbr which you will select ‘Basic’ to get to. Well, simply double click on the file selected and it should close your Documents. But where is the tool? Don’t worry! The tool that you just selected is in the Bell Pepper Brush.
How to convert a Photoshop brush to GIMP
First and foremost, if you haven’t already, you’ll need to download GIMP (http://ftp.gimp.org/pub/gimp/v2.8/windows/gimp-2.8.10-setup.exe) version 2.4 or higher.  Click file -preferences, you should see a part named “folders”. Click the plus next to it and you should see the option labeled “Brushes”. Click on it and this is where GIMP saves your brushes (this is important to remember).
Now download the Photoshop brush into the directory GIMP saves your brushes. Make sure you refresh your brush list when you go to get your brush, and it should be all set to use!
Bell Pepper Load:
The Bell Pepper Load will allow you to load any GIMP tools you have downloaded into the Bell Pepper Brush. An example was given above.
The brushes offered through http://py-bot.com/gimpbrushes.zip can be accessed after you unzip the file and set them to a file of their very own. (Or you can overwrite the file if you please.) Once this is all done you will go to the Bell Pepper Load Tool and select it. Locate where you placed your GIMP brush files, and open them up.
Once you have the GIMP brush files open you will see a list of folders to choose from, all holding s

How do I zoom and use zoom preview?

To zoom you can right click on the area you want to zoom in on and select “Zoom in”. Say you have zoomed in too close, and you need to back the zoom out a little? Well, if this is so, right click and select “Zoom out”. If you are done in that particular area want to switch and want to switch to a new area, or you are done, you can right click once more and select “Reset Zoom”

A preferred way to zoom in is by holding Ctrl and, if you are a mouse user, then using scroll with your mouse. This will zoom you directly into where your cursor is place on the board.

You may also use space-bar to zoom in- this also create a zoom-preview, allowing you to see where you are zoomed in on the board. (You can also just hold space-bar to get the zoom preview.)

Zoom Preview

How do I set my colours?

In order to set your colours, go down to the white dots you see toward the bottom of the screen. (It is located near the Primary and Secondary colour boxes.) Make sure you have the colour that you wish to use selected in the Primary box (The top box) and go to any white dot. Hold shift and click the dot, and your colour should be set inside! In order to get the colour all you have to do is click the circle.

(If you run out of room, don’t worry yourself over having to delete some colours to fit more in, because there is more room! Look to the left of “Chat” and there will be a box that says “Color”. Click “Color” and it will have many more boxes. Feel free to use the default colours set there or place your own colour over them! (This still use shift and click.)

How do I synchronize my board?
In order to sync, right click any user’s name in the “User List”. I suggest you sync with at least three people, only because one may have a lagged/lost-connection board. If both are different, then the third will (hopefully) verify the board.
(Note: If you are drawing alone in a room and leave, you will lose the picture due to there being nobody to synchronize the board from!)
                                                                                                 What are the rules?

In advance notice, most to all rooms will have different rules, unless created by the same owner- then there is a likely chance that the rules are the same. To give a basic idea of what rules there are for the users that visit the room, here are Fallback’s rules:
                                                                                            Rules for Users of Fallback:
  1. Do not use offensive usernames or excessively long usernames. (Results in a warning, and a kick if not heeded.)
  2. Do not impersonate other users or moderators. (Results in a warning, and a kick if not heeded.)
  3. Do not erase or edit other’s artwork without their permission. (Results in a kick or a ban, depending on the severity)
  4. Do not disrespect anybody, discriminate in any way, or harass users. (Results in a kick, then ban if continued)
  5. Do not write anything large that disrupts the board, or scribble. (Results in a warning, kick if continued, and ban if continued furthermore)
  6. Do not keep quick doodles on the board for long, they should not stay on the board for more than 15 seconds. (It is a moderator’s job to classify drawings as quick doodles, if you have any serious disagreements, take it to a Global Moderator)
  7. Do not wave lines around the room, or over art, especially larger size. (Results in a kick, then ban if continued)
  8. Mind the space your art takes up, allow for all users to have space. (If disobeyed greatly, results in a warning)
  9. Erase your previous drawing before starting a new one, no matter how well-drawn it is. (Draw, save, erase)
  10. Do not leave your art on the board for long periods of time, try to keep it on the board for less than 3 minutes (Time may vary, if the board is inactive drawings generally stay longer and if the artist is unresponsive, it may be erased.).
  11. Do not keep unfinished art on the board for long periods of time, finish it at one time or erase it. (results in a warning, if the artist is unresponsive, the art may be erased by a moderator)
  12. Do not allow pasted text to accumulate on the board, erase it to keep the board clear for users to draw. (Using the chat is even better)
  13. Do not hover your brush/text over other people’s artwork, as it is a distraction to the artist. (results in a kick, then ban it continued)
  14. If a user has been banned multiple times in the past, the ban length is susceptible to an increase. (1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month)
  15. Any prolonged dodging of bans may result in a permanent ban.
  16. Do not use scripting tools to reproduce images/drawings. You can go to a different room if you wish to. (results in a kick, then ban if continued)
  17. Listen to Moderators, failure to respect or follow their orders may result in a kick or a ban. (Remember, moderators are chosen because they know the rules well, and how to enforce them properly. If you have an issue with any moderator’s judgement or actions, please contact a global moderator.)
  18. Listen to Global Moderators over anybody else, they are the highest authority.

What are the ranks, and what are their privileges?

Unregistered user: Will often get a pop-up saying “You are not logged in!” and will not be able to register a room, mod a room, or send messages via inbox. Will show up as white on the userlist.

How may I contact a mod?

If you would like to contact a mod that is active, you may PM them or send them a message via Inbox, if you are afraid they will not get your PM. If you wish to contact a Global Mod, you can message them via Inbox or, if active, PM.
(Make sure to thank a mod if you are helped by one. Their hard work to help you is just pure kindness!)
How do I Private Message or Whisper to another user?

In order to private message a user you will need to right click their name, which is located in the User List, and select “PM/Whisper”. To quickly do this without selecting the username you may type, as an example,” /pm Anonymous Hello, how are you? ”

A quick way to reply to Private Messages is by hitting the up arrow!

Send

How do I send messages through “Inbox”?

(Notice: The user who you plan on messaging must be registered. You must also be registered. )

After selecting “Inbox” you will need to press “New Message”. Put in the registered user’s name you wish to message, input a subject, and then the message!

When you receive a reply, you will be notified in chat with a message saying “1 new message in inbox”. The number of messages vary, depending on how many you send and replied to by the time you log in next, or if you just don’t check them when you receive them.

To reply to messages, simply click the button that says “Reply”.

Inbox

How do I use the chat?

In using this chat, all usernames will be shown as their current rank for that room, or in referring to Global moderators, all rooms.

The chat will differ upon what rank you are for the room you are in. If you are Moderator or have a rank above that, you will have the option for chat with a scroll down menu which includes Public Chat and Moderator Message.

(P.S. A quick way to clear your chat (not the board) is to type into chat “/clear”. (Without the quotation marks, of course.)Chat

Public Chat

Public Chat will allow you to all of the users in the room with you.

Public ChitChat

Moderator Message will allow you to send a message to all of your fellow mods in the room. All Moderators and ranks above that will get this message.

(If you wish to contact only one moderator, then you can Private Message/Whisper a user.)

                                                                                     How do I use “Color”?

Color button

To use “Color” just, as it says, hold shift and click any of the white dots (or coloured dots) to replace that colour with your primary colour.

If you want to get one of the colours you have set or one of the ones offered to you, then just click on the colour, without holding shift, and it will be your colour!

How do I upload an image onto the board?

In order to upload a picture onto the board you must be a moderator of the room you are in. If you are a mod and are in Layer mode then select a layer you would like the image uploaded to. Now look to the left of the “Undo” button and you will see the “Upload” Icon!

Loading

Once you click it, it will bring up your Documents. Select a picture according to the size and filed type required: 900 x 540 and .PNG (The image I used for this example was this.)

(The view of your Documents will differ being I am using XP. But the result will be the same!)

Let’s say that you chose the third layer. It will result in the following:

What should I have checked and unchecked in “Config”?

This is up to what you wish to see and hear.
(This will only affect your settings for your screen/chat on Flockmod, and not any other user’s. Everything is able to be checked if wanted, and left unchecked if not..)
Chat:
Show User Events = This will make you aware of when a user leaves and/or enters.
(IE: EVENT :: Unregistered user Anonymous has entered the room.)
Show Timestamps = This will give the time the message was posted, in case you are unsure as to when someone chatted.
(This will refer to the time you have set on your computer.)
Show Global Messages = Having this checked will allow you to see the messages Global Mods have sent out for every user. (This is usually done when there is an update, so I would suggest keeping this checked!)
Sound:
In basic, will get to choose whether you hear the Chat message sound, Private Message sound, and Inbox sound.
Save:
Enable Advance Save = Box will allow you to select the whole screen easily. Lasso allows you to freely select a specific area on the board. All saves will be set to go into your files. If unchecked, it will simply just take the whole canvas, and bring up your Documents.
(You will be allowed to choose where to send the image in your files and the file format.)
Tools:
Auto-switch Eyedropper = Having this checked will send your tool back to the previous tool after using the inkdropper. Having it unchecked will give you the option to try for the colour you need without having to switch back and forth between your previous tool and the inkdropper.
About:
Though this may not seem to important to some, it is! It is important that you know who has helped to develop/create and update the site that you use!

Config

Using “Undo” and common questions asked about it:

What does it mean to be “muted” or to “mute”?

To mute a user means to freeze their board, only allowing chat functions. Mutes are good for stopping people from doing things that may be an accident and they’re also substitutes for kicks. Mutes last around 2 hours.

If my drawings are ruined, will they be recovered?

Perhaps! It all depends on whether a mod is online and/or active. In order to see if a mod is on, you may ask in chat, “Is there a mod online at the moment?” Any mod that is on will most likely undo for the art that is ruined. A recent development from Auto allows mods to undo to a previous frame before the art was ruined.

What does “Undo” do?
Clicking this will bring up your “Undo” pop-up menu. You will be allowed to choose from a various amount of frames. This is normally used after an issue on the board has occurred.
Save the board every __ seconds:
This will differ how many frames are saved. If you set it to two seconds, it will capture the board every two seconds. It is suggested to set the amount of saved boards to a higher amount so you have a better chance of going further back into the frames.
With a Limit of __ saved boards:
This basically gives a limit of how many saved frames are shown to undo from.
(Note: If there is a user misbehaving and marks about on the board many times, you would be better off kicking/banning first, followed by an undo. This is so you do not have to undo multiple times as the misbehaving user[s] mess around on the board.)
((The frames are recording all of the layers. When undone, all pictures will be in the same layer, so do not worry bout undoing all of the layers one-by-one.))
(((Undo is available in all tool modes.)))

How do I use the Hotkey Circle?

This can be found by holding shift while using any other tool but the “Text Tool”. In asking the purpose for it? Well, the name justifies itself! To make these work, simply hover over the one you want to use while holding shift and then let go of shift and it should take action!

Size (Up and down): Scrolls your brush size from a lower size to a high size, or vice versa.

Swap Eraser: Swaps between the two erasers given as a choice: Hard Eraser and Eraser. (Skips over the text tool.)

Swap Color: Swaps between your Primary colour and your Secondary colour

Brush (Left and right): Goes down the list if you choose the right Brush, and it goes up the list if you choose the left Brush.

Pan: This will allow you to not have the need to hold the spacebar to pan the canvas.

Z in and Z out: This will let you zoom in and out.

    • How do I use Size, Alpha, Blur, and Zoom?

Size: This will allow you to change your brush size.

Alpha: Alpha is better known as transparency/opacity. With a low alpha, the more you go over your stroke the less transparent it gets. Lower alpha goes “under” darker colors as if a layer.

Blur: Blur makes the stroke you make blurry (it works the same as the blur tool but is much more consistent.)

Zoom: This will allow you to zoom in. (Using this will zoom you directly into the middle.)

  • How do I use RGB HSV (Red Blue Green, Hue Saturation Value)?

RGB is the three hues of light. When all three of the bars are at their highest (255), white will be your primary colour. When all three of the bars are set at their lowest (0), then black will be your primary colour.

                                                                     HSV

Hue: Hue is the base pigment.

Saturation: Saturation is essentially the depth of the pigment. More saturation means more pigment. Less saturation means tint or a lighter shade of the colour you have selected.

Value: Value is the darkness of the pigment. (Basically grey-scale)

How do I use the Colour Wheel?

Using the Colour Wheel is quite simple, so have no worries!

The outer circle is essentially Hue. It allows you to pick from any of the colours you see.

The inner diamond will allow you to use Saturation and Value.

If you do not like that the inner part of the Color Wheel is a diamond, you have the option to change it to a square! Simply hold the Ctrl key on your keyboard and click on the diamond and it will turn itself into a square!

How do I use the Ban Manager?

What information is used to ban the users?
Banning is  by IP address. (Internet Protocol address, if you have any concerns as to this, please visit http://drawdevil.com/wiki/index.php?title=IP_Security_Concerns .) In order to ban, you right click on the username of the misbehaving user, and either click “Ban” or “Kick”, or press the “b” or “k” buttons on your keyboard. (Both work very well, so the choice is your own.)
How do I ban a user who got away?
(In case you do not have “User Events” checked in config, you should do so for the next tip.)
If you do not catch that pesky user the first time around, no worries, you don’t have to wait for them to come back! Simply go into chat and copy and paste his/her IP and remember their username. Now take a stroll back down to the ban list, and insert the IP in the “IP Address” box and the username in the “Username” box. You may select a [reasonable] amount of time, or just simply leave it at a twenty-four hour ban. Once you select “Insert Ban”, they are banned!
What is the regular time for a ban?
Once a user is banned in the “User List” and not in the “Bans” it is set to a twenty-four hour ban. Though, you can manually go into the Ban Manager and edit the ban time.
How do I edit my ban?
You can go into the “Bans” and edit the ban by [left] clicking to highlight/select the username. Select the large gray button in the middle. This will copy the information that was set for the user, and simply allow you to change the amount of time they are banned for.
What if I ban a user by accident?
If a user is banned by accident, or you have discussed with other mods that they are an OK user, simply go into “Bans” and select “Forgive selected”.
. Watch out for this, and remember to apologize. (Even if you didn’t mean to, it is still polite!)
