April 4, 2020; 22:38 - Reply Tomte: Mountains aren't that hard to draw, neither are landscapes on a distance or clouds for that matter. That said this is an example of it done right, the eagle is a nice touch. April 5, 2020; 17:44 - Reply TheHeadlessHoodiesman: yeah mountains are easy..if you draw them like a good 50 times..or if you're bob ross. April 5, 2020; 17:44 - Reply TheHeadlessHoodiesman: haha happy little trees in the painting tho. April 6, 2020; 16:51 - Reply ____stoopidstar: @TheHeadlessHoodiesman: I dont think they're that difficult to draw- April 6, 2020; 20:04 - Reply lolis: Tharn is able to capture a majestic mood with his lighting techniques so much better than some of the professors of art around here. I guess teachers teach and artists make art. April 7, 2020; 00:01 - Reply Tomte: Should be obvious. April 7, 2020; 11:55 - Reply lolis: Yes....it is. April 8, 2020; 07:58 - Reply Tomte: You're dishonest and your assumptions are false. Your first mistake is to assume you can paint or create art well enough to assess if something is artistically impressive or not. Your second mistake is to assume you can tell who's an artist and who's not even though you haven't seen their art. Your worst mistake however is to "guess" teachers teach and artists create art. Remove the "I guess" part of that sentence and just have it say. Teachers teach and artists create art, maybe you could add and the sky is blue and water is wet just to drive home how well you understand how technically difficult it is to paint mountains like Bob Ross. April 8, 2020; 13:58 - Reply ____stoopidstar: @Tomte: That's frighteningly aggresive April 8, 2020; 16:03 - Reply Tomte: People forget art to some of us is a profession. If people don't pay you for your work you shouldn't lecture others on how to do it properly or what it entails for the work to be technically impressive. It is insulting and beyond arrogant to assume you're in a position to do so when you can barely draw a stick figure properly. April 8, 2020; 16:09 - Reply ____stoopidstar: @Tomte: That's true. I see what you're saying. April 8, 2020; 17:28 - Reply lolis: Yeah, well I'd wager I'm a LOT farther into the actual money-making art scene than you will ever be, Tomte. That's for certain. I come here and draw with my thumb and middle finger on a track pad, to waste time, but that doesn't preclude me from knowing what I'm talking about when it comes to things in the art world. You really have no idea. You can fume all you want, but Tharn is a better artist than you, Tomte...based on what I've seen from both of you, comparatively. You have done nothing original around here at all. I think that's why you're bothered when another artist receives a compliment. Knowing more than the average 13 year olds who draw here isn't intimidating in any way, by the way....just FYI. April 8, 2020; 17:47 - Reply Ocelot33: Nice draw, I like the contrast  April 8, 2020; 23:38 - Reply Tomte: Bothered when another artist receives a compliment, scroll up. I was the first one to give them a compliment. You wouldn't lecture an athlete on how to run a marathon unless you've done it plenty of times yourself. It's not arrogant of paid artists to expect such courtesy. Just because you're able to enjoy something doesn't make you a professional at it. I know people don't pay you hundreds of dollars for your work. Because if they did you would know that painting mountains on a distance isn't that difficult. You could prove us wrong by showing us your paid work, but you probably have good reason not to do so. You insult the profession more than you insult me. April 9, 2020; 10:14 - Reply lolis: You're just a fool who will never do/make anything original in the art world at all. Your head is big....but empty. April 9, 2020; 10:50 - Reply Tomte: The point of art isn't to be original, but to be beautiful. Unless you're a performance artist who push eggs out of your vagina into buckets that is. Original is the poor artist's excuse for not being able to make something beautiful, you just want the attention. April 9, 2020; 11:52 - Reply lolis: Haven't you ever heard the phrase, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."? I wonder what you have to say about abstract impressionism -Pollock, Kandinsky....Or surrealists like Dali or Miro. You seem to be, unfortunately, stuck in the same rut that Adolf Hitler got himself stuck in, as an artist, too. You understand things that you can recognize easily, and then render versions of those things, but you fear the unknown. Things like lightness and humor evade you, too. Maybe you are simply unable to think abstractly. Maybe you are humorless. But try not to be bitter when someone else (OTHER than yourself) gives a compliment out to a fellow artist. You aren't the only one who has that option around here. April 9, 2020; 14:37 - Reply Gemotron: Can we stop having month long debates in the gallery, getting very annoying to see them every other month. April 9, 2020; 14:56 - Reply Tomte: I'm not bitter at all, the only thing that irks me the wrong way is when a passive aggressive stoner american who can't draw stick figures properly imply I teach or study art because I'm unable to make it myself. I might tolerate such an insult from a fucking genius. But not someone who thinks that people are Hitler, for failing to value colorful squares made to vaguely resemble a face or "artists" shitting themselves on stage in protest against gender stereotypes. It's dumb and not beautiful at all. I think people who go on about preschool nonsense like beauty is in the eye of the beholder and how original it is to paint with feces. I think they have a psychological need to believe in the eye of the beholder crap in order to feel good about their work. If you're not an artist for a living, don't pretend you're their equal. April 22, 2020; 11:30 - Reply _Cry_: Any artist should know it is in their best interest to take critique no matter the skill, or skill of person giving critique, you dont have to be an asshole and go on like 60 rants no one gives a shit about just because someone said something you don´t like or approve of, i get it, you´re a professional artist, that´s good mate, but try to ACT more professional and not put others down, it doesn´t matter how good of an artist you are no one will fucking like you if you are just rude. you can give critique without degrading the arist and other people looking at the drawing. That speaking...Tharn i really love what you did with the lighting, the painting does look a little heavier on the left but its balanced out well with the eagle in place, also i do think possibly a gradient in the sky would make it a bit better, due to the angle of the sun looking like its either setting or rising.. i do really love what you did with the foreground being darker though, its very nice. i hope you keep up the good work id love to see more.
