I have never really cared about performing the gender assigned, but also didnt quite mind being recognized at it or any other one. over time I noticed that my relationship to the social construct is quite different from the ones from people around me. I made a philosophy off of it, that was somewhat radical because even though I saw people around me performing aspects of what they have identified as their gender over cultural context and time I thought we where all larping and I was just one of the few not willing to pretend.
it only came with the discovery of the agender term and research on people around me that I let go of the "why dont we just make society gender neutral? one gender-neutral set of pronouns and no more of these things on identification. That way trans people would have an easier life because they could not feel that the gender they where assigned is not theirs, as it is everyones." (while I do not believe this line of thinking anymore this just goes to show how I allied my inner reality to the outside world. I was never about forcing pronouns on anyone, it was simply a to me, logical thought at the time.)
I am away that within society as it is structured today you can never really not express gender to the outside. though that is not my goal. it is rather just to be comfortable within the constant transition of gender both in society, but in return also in all of us. with things like the somewhat recent archetype of muscular women shaping our understanding of possibilities within gender expression though time. it is then on the person who perceives me to use their cultural context to assign a gender that is realistic to their understanding of gender, to me. that way whatever I am being called is more so an expression of the one perceiving me, than an expression of myself.
hope i could help you understand agender people (/my specific agender case) some more. if you have any questions just let me know! here to inform
