joycon: dont you use Pinterest character designs as inspiration without asking? personally i take inspiration from many artists here on Flockmod "without permission", but there is a difference between inspiring interest and plagiarism. i understand the annoyance of being plagiarized but i'd argue it is gatekeeping to not let anyone use certain elements because they "copy" your oc. also, JaimeL did not actually copy you, their design is different and I believe they were joking XD
PartyCat: @joycon: well these days i've been stopping using pinterest as insp, just trying to be original ^v^
and when joking at least mention it because i'm slow</3
Chahinak: Personally, I take many ideas from artists here, but only small things such as hair design or eye color. Nothing major. I understand the situation but maybe settle it a minor way...?
joycon: @Chahinak: yeah, that is normal and my point basically. what I'm trying to say here is that nobody's design is gonna be totally unique. art is built off of each other and I think we should focus on building each other up instead of trying to prevent anyone from using aspects of our designs
joycon: the renaissance was the reawakening of the arts and sciences. the most famous artists of today were renaissance painters, who took major inspiration from the previous Greeks and Romans. however they put their own spin on it and made it bigger and better. I think that's kind of the spirit of art, we are always seeking to improve off of each other by learning from each other, taking pieces from other people's art styles, designs, etc and sewing it into our own "art style". :D
Chahinak: No, dw KitKat.
Maybe some advice?
To people who are going to take inspo from others, maybe do major stuff like sleeves, shirt, etc? Or ask the creator if they can like- use the same outfit for their oc. Maybe mess around with the design too or change it a tiny bit. Maybe take from the part of the other person oc's whatever and change it up to your own way?
Just saying.
Just don't take the whole oc completely and don't directly make their design and name the exact same as the ogs.
PartyCat: the advice is exactly what i do when i use Pinterest. as i said i'm starting to stop using pin because i'd like to be original more often instead of relying on other stuff
PartyCat: also sorry if i come off rude but i'd like that we stop commenting It's gonna do like those exact same posts popping up in comments like back then w other posts and i don't want ppl getting pissy because of seeing the exact same post :'3
Thoth: "You are only as original as your references are obscure" just keep creating kiddos, the original ideas come and go, if taking queues/ideas from stuff like pintrest helps keep you consistent with your practice, there is nothing wrong with it!
JaimeL: @PartyCat: yeah I don't like the idea of copying, but I'm not quite sure that I "copy" you tho, at the moment of creating Heiri It was the first clothe that came to my mind.. but because of this I'll be changing the design! unless u let me.... use the clothe...
