torrelatinio: this painting is called "under the ground", and it is one of very few jvs paintings he has himself explained the meaning of without the viewer having to decipher his message and it is a piece on social equality, or motivation. it depicts an abstract dance floor, indicated by the mixtures of the letters l, f, r and o, which are for "floor", and is supposed to be underground, indicated by the "god" at the top. this can be deciphered two ways, simply with the "god" as in either the rich are worshipped for their prosperity in life or just a literal deity, which like most, is associated with the top, or, as apparently originally intended, "god" is backwards for "dog", and generally, as things grow up, they become taller, so "dog" is above "puppy". this means that the society in which the dance floor-like actions are being performed is a youth in which there is in fact also prosperity, at the bottom, unlike often thought by the masses but it could also be simplified by the fact that within "puppy" is "up". anyway, there are 3 pink stick-figure like drawings on the green, which we assume is the dance floor, and one of them has a head with the trademark box and jvs's signature in. this means that he had a rough childhood and early adulthood, perhaps in poverty, however he still managed to enjoy it, which is almost a motivational idea. and above these figures we see the vowels with accents on, going upwards as it progresses to the right side of the image. this perhaps shows a sign of general improvement in life, as maybe with the overall happy feel of the painting, the vowels turned from screams of pain, to screams of joy from the general rise in living conditions through recent history, even for those in mildly bad conditions. however, at the bottom, there is "oooooooon!" which is backwards for "nooooo!", and this means that there are still people in situations where joy cannot be felt in a way similar to that of the rest of the image, and perhaps due to something like primitiveness they are effectively going backwards in time, back into a time where this joy could not be felt. anyway, we see the relatively light background which means that surprisingly, contrarily to popular belief once again, the furthest back, or maybe at the beginning, the people were feeling relatively content - the shade is not too light, and still slightly depressing, as not to indicate overall happiness with their situation but rather, just that, contentness. then we see the applied cool but friendly shades of frantic purple lines and dots, the lines indicating that there still was stress but even at the bottom, there are people worse off, like mentioned earlier. the dots vary in size often, which means that it is incredibly difficult to accurately predict someone's financial or social situation despite whatever time. this could also be reflected by the yellow rings in the foreground, but due to their colour it means that it still remains a fact that for the majority of the population, life is improving. and the blurred parts on the left and right perhaps are censors, almost to blur out the beginning so they can forget their less joyful past and move on into the present. and the blue lines in the foreground represent rain, that perhaps it is a hole in the ground, that there is hope for the people in worse situations still, despite generally rain being associated with depression, that is a sign that there is a mixture. anyway, there are also faint squares back to the background, which means, that possibly there is a similar caging concept to some of jvs's past paintings, that they are stuck there, but the fact that it is in the background means that there is even more hope, and that many members of lower society can break out of this cage to the prosperous present. the green in the foreground, which is the dance floor, is also a sign of prosperity because of the general association between green and happiness. the light pink shades in the corners mean that there is a relationship between the males and females, that they, being around the edges, are mothers and help present the prosperity to the world, in almost a protest-like way. the random spammed letters at the top could also symbolise a general mess in the upper class, and that the top could in fact be more primitive than the bottom, also showing an inability to predict and a case of equality. the dense red squares holding the "forl" etc are a sign of ambition, that there is ambition to get to the top. this could be validated by the pink lines, which are disguised as the dance floor's lights, but could be abduction rays to bring the people further up, and they are coming out of the dense red square of ambition. in general, this piece indicates that despite your circumstances, in some areas you are equal or better off to the people above you, and you must remember that through time and your journey through life. the end
